well i can't say her not eating great or taking her vitamins is the greatest thing and it is right for you to worry, but let me tell you a short story. i found out i was pregnant about a day after i starting having morning sickness and i was about 2 - 2 1/2 months pregnant. i started taking my vitamins after i saw the doctor and they just made me sick to my stomach everytime i would take them. same thing for foods that i would eat to try to watch my health. i ended up eating a lot of crackers, cookies, ice cream, fish filet from mcdonald's, and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches during my pregnancy and my daughter was the healthiest little girl. as long as she eats some healthy foods and isn't over eating or under eating her and the baby should both be okay. my daughter was very healthy with great heartbeat, all her fingers & toes, was 20 inches long and 7 lbs 14.5 oz. when she was born. and i know i wasn't perfect with my eating and vitamins. her reasons may be different then mine, she doesn't have to watch everything she eats. just make sure she has some heathy foods throughout the day though. good luck and enjoy you bundle of joy!
References :
This is a very touchy topic and because she is pregnant and her hormones are going crazy it makes it that much harder. I would suggest you find some movies or literature on child birth showing how this will effect the baby. My husband and I did Lamaze training and it showed so many things that you do that you don't realize that effect the way the baby reacts. After I went through it I had my baby natural without any drugs, simply because of the effect the drugs will have on the baby. Also how certain foods help the baby and how other foods hurt the baby. It honestly taught me allot and it really made me change my whole outlook on how I carried myself. Even down to the shoes you wear effect you and the baby. I see lots of women wearing heels during there pregnancy and I know once those labor pains hit them they will have wished they wore flats or at least lower more comfortable shoes during those nine months. Also maybe telling her if she is not concerned about the baby's health now before it's born, how is she going to be once the baby is here? That is also something to think about. She does need to remember or even be reminded that it is no longer about her it is all about the baby and being selfish now it only going to cause problems later.
References :
Experience. I have an eleven year old daughter.

it's really sweet of you to care. :) The pre-natal vitamins are pretty important in helping to prevent birth defects, however if she doesn't take them it's not the end of the world, my sis in law didn't take them and all of her children turned out just fine. However I can completely understand about healthy foods, especially if the vitamins are lacking. I can also understand on your girlfriends side however.. During my first trimester I found most healthy food made me sick just by looking at it (and I'm a healthy eater to begin with) Maybe sit down and actually talk with her about why she doesn't want to eat certain foods, depending on how far along she is, it may be the nausea talking. As far as the anger and stuff goes. If she's usually pretty mildly tempered it's true the horomones may have something to do with it. I find that I'm constantly crying over little things and maybe even being slightly irrational, and i'm usually pretty level headed... (by the way I'm 16 weeks prego myself).

Keep encouraging her though, and make sure that you don't seem patronizing while doing it. I'm glad you're making the effort, you're going to be a great dad. Congratulations.
References :
Buy her a book with pictures of birth defects. She has someone else's life in her hands and she needs to stop playing mind games. If she really wanted to be pregnant she would do anything for the baby starting NOW! No woman likes swallowing those horse pills every day, but we love our babies so we do it.
References :
It seems like you've done everything you can do to help her and she's just not smart enough to realize that what she's doing will affect both her and the baby if something goes wrong. All I can say is ask the doctor to speak to her about the importance of taking the vitamins. Other than that, all you can do is probably be sneaky about it and crush the vitamins and put them in her food (if they're crush-able).
References :
Tell her that she can't be so selfish..She has a bigger responsibility at this point in time..and those extra vitamins are very good for her..and its not that hard to remember to take a pill 2 times a day. Take it when you get up..and take it when you go to bed...there ya go. You just got to annoy her until she gets the point that you are just looking out for her, and your child...and try and stress that pregnancy induced diabetes is not fun...
References :
Not very often do you see a man care this much, but you cannot force her to take the prenatal vitamins. My boyfriend couldn't get my to take them either. Together we decided to try flintstone vitamins. They are chewable and taste better. Maybe you can start doing the things you want her to do together. Then again if she was never a health concious person to begin with it's going to be hard to persuade her. Your best bet is to let her eat what she wants. She's pregnant and there are a lot of things she's going through. But I do recommend you doing what she does. I had to quit drinking pop so i got my boyfriend to do the same thing, as well as eating other things too. Compromise!! Don't make her do things she doesn't want to. Good Luck!!!
References :
Contact your family physician and explain this to him, maybe he has some pictures and stories to share with her. The two of you should sign up for some prenatal education classes. If she is unwilling to go or participate maybe you should think of what she will be like as a mother and condiser documenting in case you should ever need to gain custody of your child.

I know this seems underhanded but as a man you have little rights on what the mother does during pregnacy. Bottom line everything you do is for the health of your unborn child. Good luck!
References :
Actually, there is debate on whether or not prenatal vitamins are beneficial. However, if she is completely ignoring proper nutrition she is not only hurting her baby but herself. Her body will take nutrients for the baby first, if she does not have proper nutrient intake she will suffer. Prenatals can be beneficial in this instance but if she won't take them, you can't make her. Maybe easing her into healthier food choices would help. Or speaking to her doctor may help.
